Well here goes - my first blog post... ever. Still not sure if this will take, or if anyone will ever read it, but why not?
It is a beautiful September night. I am sitting on my balcony listening to the chirping of crickets, including one shy little cricket who somehow got into the Roma tomato plant, but he stops chirping whenever I get too close.
The hummingbirds have pretty well stopped coming now, the feeder hanging above the planter boxes seems to miss them. I know Katie does. She looks forward excitedly to seeing them each year and misses them when they're gone. Goodbye little hummingbirds.
Our lovely garden reminds me of the summer that is now quickly fading into memory. The lettuce that the caterpillars ate in a single night (following which Katie waged war and won), two beets we have yet to harvest, one last flush of beans, and our tomato plants. It may not seem like much of a garden to someone with a home and a yard, but it's ours and Katie has done a marvelous job with it. The enjoyment she has received from this little garden has been priceless.
So many wonderful memories - so many reasons to smile.
